The warning issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is very sensationalized.  Rad and we feel that there is no need to be alarmed.

Their batteries go through rigorous testing by Rad Power Bikes themselves and third party labs (that CPSC did not accept).  They have a long and well-documented track record of building safe, reliable ebikes equipped with batteries that meet or exceed rigorous international safety standards, including UL-2271 and UL-2849.

The testing that the CPSC performed were extreme and inaccurate.  These tests would never be considered a real world like situation.

The batch in question is 120,000 units and there have been 31 incidents.  That is a 0.025 per cent failure rate.  It is a higher industry standard for pretty much anything.  Rad has more than 700,000 bikes sold worldwide bringing the percentage even lower and it speaks to their exceptional technology.

Although, these batteries were most likely sold before our relationship with RPB and most likely have not been sold through us as a retailer, we want to provide our customers with the correct information:

All bikes purchased from Bluebird: Coffee Tuning & Rentals after April 30th, 2025 and are MY25 models come stock with the new Safe Shield battery and are not part of the CPSC warning.

Bikes purchased before April 30th, 2025 may be listed on the CPSC notice.  Battery models are RP-1304 and HL-RP-S1304.  This can be found on the barcode sticker directly found on your battery.  Only exact numbers are part of this warning.  If there is a Y or S following that serial number, then it is exempt of this warning.

The notice issued by the CPSC was a warning, not a recall.

If you feel more comfortable replacing your battery, we can order you a new Safe Shield battery.  They are on sale.  This measure is not needed or recommended, but we understand if this would make you feel more comfortable.

Please follow battery care guidelines provided by Rad Power Bikes; available on their website.  Like any household item that uses a lithium battery, treat it with care and inspect for damage to the battery.  Discard following local protocol and regulations.
